In January 2002, Estelle Morris, Secretary of State for Education and Skills, announced £100 million over the next two years to provide teachers with personal access to computers.
Laptops for Teachers (LfT) funding is being distributed by LEAs evenly among the schools in their areas up to a limit of £1,100 per system and guidance has been published (http://lft.ngfl.gov.uk/guidance/index.html) on how the funding should be allocated.
The NGfL produced a minimum specification for computers purchased under the Laptops for Teachers (LfT) scheme. Suppliers were asked to provide systems which meet this spec and a catalogue of accredited suppliers is published on the web (http://lft.ngfl.gov.uk/catalogue/index.php).
OLT Consulting have been working with all the main suppliers of laptops over the past few months to establish which systems we can recommend as being suitable. As each school’s needs vary, we suggest a discussion with our advisers before making a final decision to help make the scheme work best for your school and staff.
